Sociable weaver birds often have large nests around campsites, and are friendly little birds, a bit like our sparrows. They turned out to be good friends as well as good photo subjects! We'd been camping in the same spot for a couple of days and the birds often came to clear up our crumbs, but one day they started to mass beside a log and make a terrible racket. Looking more closely we saw there was a horned viper very well camouflaged under it. We'd collected kindling from that area so we were glad our little friends had given us the warning. The snake soon got fed up with the noise and moved on, and we were a little more careful picking up wood from then on.

Awarded a highly coveted London Salon Medal at my first time of entering (one of 9 awarded), as well as having 3 other prints accepted for exhibition.
The London Salon is made up of 50 members who are considered to be the elite in the photographic world and the exhibition is selected by the members every year, so it is different from other exhibitions in that respect. Salon members have the right to exhibit one print in the exhibition, which makes it more difficult for non-members to have work accepted. This year they selected only 177 prints for exhibition, so I was delighted to have 4 images accepted.
The London Salon mission statement is “The aim of the London Salon is to exhibit only that class of photographic work in which there is distinct evidence of artistic feeling and execution” so it does suit my style of photography.
